Consulting and expert testimony
I recently had the pleasure of listening to Mischa Popoff speak at a conference on agriculture and the environment. He was authoritative, informative and entertaining, and I would recommend him to anyone who wants a speaker who’s willing to tell it like it is.
Like me, Mischa comes from humble beginnings and rose within the ranks of the green movement. For me it was a small cabin in a West Coast logging camp; for Mischa it was a small farm house in the Prairies. I was a founding member of Greenpeace and led that organization in all of its landmark campaigns in Canada, the United States and beyond; Mischa rose to the rank of Advanced Organic Inspector and inspected over 500 organic farms and processing facilities on both sides of the Canadian-American border during his career.
Most importantly, Mischa had an epiphany like I did and realized that while the principles and philosophy of the environmental movement were perfectly sound, the leadership of his side of the movement had become flagrantly political without any recourse to science whatsoever. So he spoke out. And that’s why you need to hear him.
Mischa’s work is thoroughly-researched, and always a rollicking good read. It engages the reader as only something written by someone who’s “been there” can do. I hope you will invite Mischa to speak at your next event. He is quite possibly the most sensible “dropout” I’ve ever heard speak from the organic side of the environmental equation. Indeed, he strikes me as a totally sensible organicist, a rare find in a world increasingly dominated by activists.
